In this Pride Month, we wish to celebrate and highlight a project that is very dear to our hearts. We are thrilled to present the West Island Rainbow Seniors Program, a project supported by Mission inclusion, dedicated to providing a nurturing space for elderly individuals of sexual and gender diversities.
A Haven of Inclusion and Support
At the heart of Montreal’s West Island, the West Island LGBTQ2+ Centre stands as a beacon for individuals of sexual and gender diversities. Since its establishment in 2011, this centre has committed to be more than just a service provider. It is a voice for equality, a shield against discrimination and oppression, and most importantly, a place of belonging. Today, the Centre offers a mosaic of programs, providing support and open dialogue for youth, young adults, transgender and non-binary individuals, parents, and LGBTQ2+ refugees.
A Community-based and Inclusive Project
The Rainbow Seniors Program is the latest star added to this mosaic. Designed as a haven for elderly individuals of sexual and gender diversities, this program aims to offer a safe and caring space where they can freely express themselves, grow, and build solidarity.
But the Rainbow Seniors Program does not stop there. Besides providing a space for the elderly, the Centre is also committed to enlightening the rest of the community. It does so by offering educational programs aimed at reducing prejudice and discrimination.
Towards a More Inclusive and Understanding Society
In this Pride Month, we celebrate not only the resilience of individuals of sexual and gender diversities, but also the efforts of those tirelessly working towards a more inclusive and respectful society. Mission Inclusion is proud to support the West Island Rainbow Seniors Program, a pillar of these efforts.
Like the rainbow that gives this program its name, we hope that the work of these brave individuals will continue to light the way towards a society where every person, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can live and thrive in equality, dignity, and respect.
