What kind of legacy do we hope to leave behind? It’s a question we all ask ourselves at some point. For Louis Roberge, the answer is clear: a legacy that transforms lives and restores hope for those who need it most. Through his involvement with Mission inclusion, he chose to continue a family tradition of generosity and make his planned gift an act of confidence in the future.
A Family Tradition Passed Down Through Generations
Since 1993, Louis Roberge has been actively involved with Mission inclusion. His commitment is no coincidence — it’s rooted in a family history deeply grounded in generosity and social engagement.
His uncle, Guy Roberge, was one of the founders of the foundation. He encouraged Louis to carry on this mission when he retired. But the roots of this commitment go even deeper. From a young age, Louis was made aware of the importance of giving back, a value firmly instilled during his education with the Jesuits.
Already an investment advisor and socially engaged, Louis embraced the belief that professional success should go hand in hand with responsibility toward the community. What followed would only reinforce this conviction.
A Life‑Changing Encounter
There are moments when our view of the world shifts. For Louis, that moment came during a visit to a centre supported by Mission inclusion. That day, he met young adults left to fend for themselves after aging out of the youth protection system. Their stories deeply moved him.
One of them shared how he had drifted from foster home to foster home, never finding stability, never experiencing the sense of belonging every child deserves. Then a young woman spoke. Her voice trembling, she recounted a life marked by abuse, prostitution, and addiction. Words that sounded like a cry for justice.
Hearing these stories, Louis felt an overwhelming sense of injustice. He thought of his own children, raised in a stable, privileged environment, surrounded by love and safety. The contrast was unbearable. At that moment, something crystallized within him: he could no longer remain just a spectator. He had to act—not only out of compassion but out of a deep conviction that every person deserves a chance to thrive
A Commitment Transformed
Over the years, Louis has come to understand the real impact of his involvement. One day, a member of a partner organization shared a striking truth:
“Mission inclusion’s support is not just about funding. It also gives us the credibility we need to mobilize other donors and partners.”
These words stayed with him. He realized that the foundation was far more than a charitable organization. It was a true catalyst for change, enabling essential initiatives to emerge and endure.
Already participating in the Cycling for Inclusion challenge and serving on the foundation’s board of directors, Louis felt the need to go further. After ensuring his children’s financial stability, he asked himself a fundamental question: Do they really need a larger material inheritance?
The answer quickly became clear. He could turn his commitment into something lasting — into a legacy that would continue making a difference long after he was gone. And so, he decided to include Mission inclusion in his will.
A Message of Hope for All of Us
For Louis, this planned gift is much more than a philanthropic gesture. It is an act of trust—essential to Mission inclusion’s sustainability and to supporting the thousands of people the foundation helps every year.
He is convinced that if more people follow this path, we can transform not only the future of an organization but also the lives of countless individuals.
“Anyone can make a difference, even without being on the ground. Whether through a donation, a fundraising initiative, or simply raising awareness among loved ones, everyone has a role to play.”
By continuing a family tradition of generosity, Louis Roberge demonstrates the power of planned giving. His personal commitment resonates in the lives of every person supported by Mission inclusion.
His story reminds us that the most precious legacy is not what we accumulate, but what we pass on — a legacy that transforms injustice into opportunity, despair into hope, and isolation into inclusion.
