Mission inclusion announces the launch of the second phase of the project Adapting Burkinabe Communities to Climate Change – Phase 2 (ABC-2) in the Boucle du Mouhoun, Nord, Centre-nord and Plateau-central regions. This $1.46 million initiative receives financial support from the Quebec government as part of the Programme de coopération climatique internationale, which stems from the Plan pour une économie verte 2030.
The project will be implemented with three Burkinabé partners – the Association Formation développement ruralité, Action pour la promotion des initiatives locales, and the Union des groupements pour la commercialisation de produits agricoles de la Boucle du Mouhoun – in collaboration with Université Laval’s Chair in International Development.
Geneviève Gauthier, Senior Director of International Programming at Mission inclusion, explains:
This new phase of the ABC project demonstrates the importance of working with our partners over the long term to create a lasting impact. Together, we are developing solutions that address climate challenges while empowering communities, especially women and people from vulnerable groups.

Building on the lessons learned from the first phase, this three-year project will strengthen the capacities of people living off agroforestry resources (agricultural, forestry and livestock), particularly women and people in vulnerable situations, including those displaced by conflicts within the country.
Highlights of the project :
Installation of 500 biodigesters for access to clean energy
3,000 producers trained in resilient farming practices
Capacity-building in social dialogue for equitable and sustainable use of resources
Generating and sharing knowledge on agroforestry and low-carbon technologies
